Did You Know?
Steve is the Chair of the Lower Mifflin Township Planning Commission. In addition to working to support the township in this capacity, he has been actively working the food processing residual (FPR) issue on behalf of Lower Mifflin Township with various legislators since the Spring of 2023. FPRs have been a very hot issue for the township and many other neighboring communities. Learn more about FPRs here and here.
Here's a brief summary of what Steve has done for Lower Mifflin Township related to FPRs:
- Filed an official complaint with PA DEP Representative Valerie Marx.
- Contacted Rep. Barb Gleim, Sen. Greg Rothman, all 3 Cumberland County Commissioners, the Soil Conservation Office of Cumberland County, and DEP Operation Chief Carrie Fleming.
- Drafted a letter to Rep. Dan Moul (Ag. and Rural Affairs Committee, Republican Chair), and to Sen. Greg Rothman (Ag. and Rural Affairs Committee, Vice Chair).
- Visited 8 neighbors asking them to sign and send the letters that he drafted.
- Gave a dozen letters to another community member which he volunteered to distribute to his neighbors.
- Sent similar letters to 5 other state reps., most of whom were on the Ag. and Rural Affairs Committee.
- Sent follow-up letters to all of the above-mentioned legislators, plus Rep. Torren Ecker.
- Filed another official complaint with the PA DEP.
- Was in frequent contact with Barb Gleim's office.
- Has attended at least 6 in-person meetings with Rep. Barb Gleim, Sen. Greg Rothman, Rep. Torren Ecker, and Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding.
